Evlynne Gilvarry, chief executive and registrar for the General Dental Council (GDC) has decided to step down from January 2016.
The GDC has announced it will appoint an interim chief executive until a permanent replacement is found.
‘It has been a privilege to lead the organisation for the last five years and I have greatly enjoyed working with so many talented and dedicated colleagues,’ Evlynne Gilvarry said.
‘It is now the right time for me to hand over to a new chief executive to lead the GDC going forward.
‘I would like to thank the GDC’s council members and staff for their support and commitment during my time with the organisation.’
Substantial change
During her time as chief executive, Evlynne Gilvarry has led the GDC through a time of substantial change.
She has look to change the fitness to practise processes in an aim to make it more efficient and effective, she also oversaw the biggest rise in annual retention fee in the regulator’s history.
‘On behalf of the council and staff, I would like to thank Evlynne for her very valuable contribution and commitment over a period of immense challenge for the organisation,’ GDC chair, Bill Moyes, said.
‘She has driven forward some very significant and necessary improvements during her time with the GDC, which will benefit the organisation well into the future.’
