Optidisc – the high performing polishing and contouring disc

Optidisc – the high performing polishing and contouring disc

Successful restorations are just as much about starting well as they are about great finishing and polishing.

Optidisc finishing and polishing discs allow you to obtain a result equal to that of natural dentition with restorations and are now even easier to choose.

Indeed, they assist you from contouring to finishing through the different colour-coded grit levels available. This polishing system is a key element to finish off any aesthetic restoration.

Four colours – four stages of abrasiveness

The Optidisc system offers the choice of four grit level discs for contouring, finishing and high gloss polishing. It is suitable for composite, glass ionomers, amalgams, semiprecious and precious metals.

  • Extra coarse* for gross reduction and recontouring to adjust primary geometric form
  • Coarse/medium* for finishing, to remove composite excess, shape occlusal anatomy, lingual fissures, and secondary anatomy
  • Fine for polishing, to erase surface scratches and reduce surface roughness below Ra (roughness average) = 0.46µm
  • Extra fine for high gloss polishing, to reduce surface roughness to high gloss below Ra = 0.2µm.

Safe, ready to use, flexible and precise

Safe – Optidisc’s active side is easy to recognise. The patented mandrel locks below the surface of the disc, protecting your restoration against scarring and scratching.

It also guarantees optimal torque transmission, so the disc does not slide and is not rpm sensitive, giving you better and safer handling.

Ready to use and long lasting – Optidisc is made of polyester coated with aluminium oxide particles. Its abrasive layer has no extra adhesive coating, meaning the moment you fix the disc to the mandrel you are ready to go!

Flexible and precise – the shorter mandrel and the disc’s bendability allow you to reach posterior and other restricted areas with ease. The transparent material gives you great visibility while working, for extra precision in your finishing and polishing.

Discs are also available in three different diameter sizes depending on your needs: 9.6 mm, 12.6 mm and 15.9 mm.

A professional assessment…

‘Optidiscs are an integral component of Kerr’s outstanding portfolio of restorative products. The reversible discs are available in four grit sizes (80μm, 40μm, 20μm, 10μm); small, medium and large disc diameters and with two mandrel length options to assist with access.

There are ideal for composite shaping (coarse), smoothing (medium) and finishing and polishing to a high surface lustre. Having used them in practice and on my hands-on courses for many years, I can highly recommend them without reservation.’
