Back by popular demand, the South West Dentistry Show will be touching down at Ashton Gate Stadium in Bristol on Saturday 1 July 2023.

The show’s third run is set to be even better than before with the highest attendance to date. Delegates, speakers and exhibitors will be gathering in Bristol for a fantastic day of networking and learning.

Simone Ruzario – WTF: What is the future? A brave new world driving behaviour change in oral healthcare teams! – sponsored by Listerine (one hour verified CPD)

Simone is a dental hygienist and therapist with over 20 years’ experience. Alongside her practice, she is hugely influential in driving change throughout both private and public dentistry, from working with charities to contributing to diversity and equality initiatives.

This presentation will look at the role of personalised dental medicine in 21st century dental practice, including the challenge presented by periodontal diseases, the WHOs 2022/23 Oral Health Strategy, and the need to put the patient at the centre of all we do.

The session will also explore gingivitis and explain its importance in the prevention of periodontitis and its impact on systemic diseases. The lecture will finish by looking at multi-disciplinary team working between oral healthcare professionals and medical colleagues.

  • Appreciate the need to shift from managing periodontitis to gingivitis and why, from an oral and systemic health perspective

Benjamin Tighe – WTF: What is the future? And where do I start? – sponsored by Listerine (one hour verified CPD)

Benjamin is a tutor dental therapist at the prestigious Eastman Dental Hospital alongside working in private practice. He is also a trainer for the Swiss Dental Academy and lectures across the UK on guided biofilm therapy.

This session will provide an overview of the role of chemotherapeutics in biofilm prevention, reviewing the latest mouth rinse evidence, why it’s important for dental hygienists and therapists to review and critique research, and how we can implement the results in our daily practice.

Laura Bailey – WTF: What is the Future? Know your patient, change the outcome – sponsored by Listerine (one hour verified CPD)

Laura is a progressive dental therapist who has worked in private practice for the last 10 years. She is passionate about the relationships she has with her patients and wants to inspire other therapists to take the plunge and do more of what they love.

‘Inspiring behaviour change in patients can be challenging and frustrating, but if we are to achieve the best oral health outcome for them, we must persist in our efforts,’ Laura said.Her lecture will unpick the human brain by looking at the four personality types and how to adapt your approach to each one, arming you with three questions you can ask every patient to establish their type and find out what makes them tick.

Devang Patel – Full Mouth Reconstruction Demystified (one hour verified CPD)

Devang is an implant and a restorative dentist with almost two decades of experience in dentistryHe is a past program coordinator for the MSc in Restorative Dental practice program at Eastman Dental Institute, and the author of a best selling book called Full Mouth Reconstruction for GDPs.

Full mouth reconstruction (FMR)  is a very dry and a daunting topic, but Devang’s lecture will simplify it to the extent that any GDP with a good understanding of single tooth dentistry should be able to carry out FMR in just three steps.

Attendees will:

  • Understand risk assessment for FMR cases
  • Understand importance of occlusion in FMR
  • Understand treatment planning process of simple adhesive FMR cases. 

Alfonso Rao – Predictable Guided Bone Regeneration (30 minutes verified CPD)

Over the last few years, Alfonso has dedicated a lot of personal time to mentoring dentists in implant dentistry and as an opinion leader and speaker for Straumann, Geistlich and many other companies. He is a co-founder of DELTA, which provides a different approach to learning implant dentistry.

Guided Bone Regeneration (GBR) is one of the most common techniques we use in implant dentistry. It can be used to repair alveolar ridges with larger bone defects and can obtain excellent and stable bone augmentation results.

This introduction lecture focuses on patient selection, diagnosis and treatment planning for grafting procedures.

Attendees will:

  • Understand the biology behind the GBR procedure
  • Learn how to predictably perform GBR
  • Learn how to manage flaps, sutures and membranes to get consistent results.

Mike Gregory – How to take beautiful primary impressions – sponsored by Kemedent (30 minutes verified CPD)

Mike is a qualified dentist and dental technician, and has been making dentures since 1973. He has been teaching removable prosthodontics since 1980 at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.  

This session includes a video presentation and Q&A, highlighting the advantages of modifying stock impression trays with standard materials to achieve quality primary impressions first time every time.  

Attendees will:

  • Identify the limitations of stock dental impression trays
  • Learn how to use readily available and biologically sustainable materials to modify dental impression trays
  • Understand how to achieve quality results at a single attempt.
