‘Nice guy’ of cosmetic dentistry honoured

Dentist to the stars, Mervyn Druian, was honoured by his peers today (Friday) at a presentation held by the British Dental Bleaching Society (BDBS) at the start of World Aesthetic Congress (WAC).

The BDBS staged a bleaching symposium to kick off a two-day World Aesthetic Congress which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.

Making the presentation, Linda Greenwall, editor-in-chief of Aesthetic Dentistry Today and who launched the BDBS three years ago, referrred to Dr Druian, who has more than 30 years of experience in dentistry, as ‘a leader, an innovator in cosmetic dentistry and preventive dentistry’.

Mervyn, she said, put all his enthusiasm behind power whitening, is a celebrity dentist to the stars and told delegates ‘he’s a really nice guy’.

In 1983, Mervyn caused a phenomenon in UK dentistry when he became the first UK dentist to introduce the practice of porcelain veneers.

Since then Mervyn’s cosmetic and aesthetic work has become world renowned and he frequently lectures and teaches around the world. Mervyn was the principle dentist on Extreme Makeovers UK and, in 1990, introduced the first power whitening system into the UK.

He has become a leading exponent of in-surgery tooth whitening.

In accepting his award, Mervyn explained ‘dentistry is my hobby. I really love what I do. I’m absolutely overwhelmed.’

He thanked Linda Greenwall and the committee for the presentation.
