Leading dentists from the BDA’s (British Dental Association’s) General Dental Practice Committee (GDPC) have passed a vote of no confidence in the General Dental Council (GDC).
The body, which represents UK general dental practitioners, voted unanimously in favour of the motion.
The resolution stated that: ‘In view of the recent findings of the Professional Standards Authority, the GDPC believes that the General Dental Council is a body no longer fit for purpose to regulate the dental team and protect patients.’
The resolution will now be passed to the BDA’s Principal Executive Committee for further consideration.
John Milne, chair of the BDA’s General Dental Practice Committee said: ‘This vote reflects the universal anger within the dental community towards a regulator that has ridden roughshod over our profession.
‘The GDC has lost the trust and confidence of dentists.
‘This resolution recognises we need more than sticking plasters to secure the proportionate, fair and cost effective regulation we deserve.’
