Anish Patel discusses how he disguised a young male’s yellow spots and replaced the composite bonding.
A 24-year-old male attended for a new patient consultation. He was unhappy with some old composite bonding placed on his front teeth in an attempt to cover intrinsic discolouration and yellow spots on the teeth (Figures 1, 2 and 3).
The patient was advised by his previous dentist the likely cause of the yellow spots was fluorosis related. In an attempt to mask this, composite was placed over the teeth.
He was now seeking an improvement in the appearance of the upper front teeth. Here he was unhappy with the colour match between the composite and natural tooth. The current shapes of the teeth were satisfactory to the patient. And the diastema between the two upper incisors not a concern.
With a minimally invasive approach being the biggest focus of our treatment plan, a decision was made to carry out teeth whitening followed by replacement composite bonding on the UR1 and UL1.
Careful removal of the existing composite bonding was completed with the use of tungsten carbide burs. A UV torch aided in existing composite fluorescence https://toneto.net/news/dom/chem-otlichaetsya-otel-ot-gostinicy and to preserve and maintain all surrounding natural toot structure (Figure 4).
Following home whitening using White Dental Beauty’s 10% Carbamide Peroxide over a period of three weeks, a review appointment was scheduled to ensure the patient was happy with the new colour of his teeth.
At this visit, the shade of his teeth was recorded as BL using the Vita Shade Pan guide….
