Ian Humphreys gives his experience of using the Dawson academy.
‘My only regret is that I didn’t start taking the Dawson courses years ago!’
We all know that feeling when a patient with complex treatment needs walks through the door – frustration. Frustration because you’re not sure how to handle that case.
I knew that my confidence and skill in treatment planning complex cases needed to be improved, even though I’d completed a restorative MSc. I’d had Peter Dawsons textbook for some time and always thought that his approach to dentistry made the most sense. I seriously considered travelling to the States to take his courses there but after a little research I discovered that I didn’t need to: Ian Buckle was teaching the Dawson Core curriculum on the Wirral (where Charlotte’s mum and dad live).
I knew a little of everything and thought I knew more than I actually did, but the core curriculum improved the gaps in my knowledge and taught me how to approach any treatment planning case in a structured way.
Now I feel more confident when that ‘what-do-I-do-now’ patient walks through the door, and my only regret is that I didn’t start taking the Dawson courses years ago.
