Guided surgery for implant placement is not a new concept in implant dentistry.
Restoratively driven implant placement is a well accepted and often quoted dogma when clinicians consider implant positioning.
However, guided surgery, which many believe to be the apogee of restoratively driven implant planning and placement, still struggles to find wide-scale acceptance in the UK.
In this webinar, Nick will put forward the case for computer-guided surgery. It will discuss the benefits of planning your surgery virtually before going to the patient’s mouth, as well as the clinical advantages of guided surgery. In addition, it will look to the future to discuss how this fast-evolving technology may evolve.
Learning outcomes
- Using guided surgery protocols can simplify all aspects of implant dentistry
- Planning your implant cases virtually benefits the surgeon, restoring colleague (if different to the surgeon) and most importantly the patient
- Guided surgery can be used to improve safety
- Virtually planned and surgically guided implant placement is a powerful tool medico-legally.

He works as a specialist prosthodontist and, as such, accepts referrals related to prosthodontics. He also has a special interest in all aspects of implant dentistry.
As a pioneer in computer guided surgery, Nick has taught a generation of dentists about guided surgery. He is particularly interested in all aspects of computer-guided surgery and guided surgical navigation for simplification of surgical placement of dental implants.
In addition, of recent interest is the amalgamation of 3D facial scanning and real time jaw movements into the implant planning process for complex cases.
