The BDA has backed councils for their leadership on sugar, after the LGA called for child-friendly labelling on sugary drinks.
The Local Government Association (LGA) represents over 370 councils and has made the calls before the Government launches its obesity strategy.
‘Local councils are now offering the kind of leadership on the sugar crisis we expect to see from national government,’ Russ Ladwa, chair of the British Dental Association’s (BDA’s) Health and Science Committee, said.
‘Tooth decay has become the number one reason why children are admitted to hospital, and any solution will require parents, business and the authorities to play their part.
‘Health professionals are looking to see if this Government is prepared to take its full share of responsibility.’
